    After a busy spring, it is time to point our resources towards exploring new ways to improve our existing products and develop new technology. We always strive to optimize our transmitters and receiver systems, pushing boundaries in the technology and keeping a close eye on quality and function. There has been a lot of "invisible" changes lately such as firmware updates, allowing for more functions, tag reprogramming ability, extended battery life, and much more. This time, we have looked at how we can improve the size of the product without compromising things such as battery life or transmit power. Our most size sensitive transmitters, the 7 mm tags, now have a 5% reduced length and 10% reduced weight, from shedding 1 mm in total length. It might seem little, but as the tags are relatively tiny already, that 10% reduced weight can be that little difference which ensures objectivity in your juvenile fish studies.

  • TBR 700 Real Time for Manual Tracking

    Did you know that if you have a field laptop or a tablet running a windows operating system, all you need for manual tracking is the TBR 700 RT (Real Time) receiver, which can easily be connected to your laptop/tablet using USB? Tracking is efficient using the TBR Live View software, which provides big and readable live data and transmitter history logs. Based on a simple setup file, you get the data displayed directly with the correct scaling and annotation. The live data provides information such as sensor data, ID number, frequency and signal to noise ratio (SNR) from the transmitters. Data displayed from the receiver includes temperature and background noise. In addition to an adaptable audio signal, the green bar at the bottom of TBR Live View displays the signal strength. The data logged can be seen in the window on the right, and it can also be uploaded to ComPort for further analysis.

  • Launching the Most Advanced Receiver Firmware Yet! True Multi-Frequency Reception!

    You may have heard the buzz about multi-frequency receivers before, but behold! Now true advanced multi-frequency reception is available as a firmware upgrade to your existing TBR 700s. Until now, we have had multi-frequency receivers, meaning that you can set and reprogram your receivers to listen at any frequency between 63-88 kHz. The new true multi-frequency firmware upgrade lets your TBRs listen to up to three different frequencies at the same time. This opens up for three times as many tags at the same site or three times more frequent transmits, it's like getting three receivers in one. It also means that there can be multiple projects going on at the same site, which can easily be separated at different frequencies without any overlap. By deliberately choosing which ID to use on what frequency, you can prioritise data from certain transmitters by setting them to a less used frequency, making sure they get through. By setting tags to transmit at different frequencies, it means they cannot collide with each other, resulting in more data output.   • PinPoint - An Extensive Positioning Service

    PinPoint is a data analysis service offered by Thelma Biotel for 2D or 3D tracking of aquatic animals tagged with our transmitters. It gives extensive insight to the movement patterns of the species studied, and can be beneficial in many cases when researching life under water. The system is built on the principle of speed of sound in water, where synchronized clocks with millisecond precision and precise temperature sensors in our receivers (TBR 700) allow for extremely accurate positioning. The arrival time of each emitted signal will depend on the distance between the transmitter and the individual receivers. Given two receivers at known positions. The time difference of arrival (TDOA) can locate a transmitter into a hyperboloid. A third receiver enables the PinPoint system to identify intersections and provide position estimates when the transmitter depth is known. This allows for 3D-positioning.
